Insights and Reflections about the poem "Desiderata by Max Ehrmann"

"Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection," a line taken from the poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann that has caught my attention.
As Max Ehrmann wrote the poem Desiderata, he wants to convey the basic principles of life. Each one of us is different from one another. Different in terms of expressing ourselves and also the path we are taking in. The poem teaches us to just be ourselves and just live your life to the fullest inspite of the hindrance or struggles that we might face. We must also learn to accept our failures and take the opinion of others thinking that they can help even in simplest way. Every person in this world has their own explanation for everything.
Comparing yourself with others is like not believing in your own capability. Many of us, loves to compare themselves to the ones they idolize, which in turn can lead to their own frustrations because the wasn't able to achieve what they envy to the people they idolize. This poem also teaches to just be yourself. Enjoy every moment in your life. Treasure every achievement you will get. Plan every action you will, for you will not be disappointed of what the result will be.
We should also strive hard to reach our goals in life. Even there are many hindrance blocking up your way to the finish line, life must go on. One should prove others what they got and what they can do just to achieve what they want for their future.

In reading this wonderful poem, I have learn so many things that I should apply in my daily life. I must be myself every time, everywhere. I should put my whole heart in to whatever path  I am taking.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (October 8-14, 2012)

It was a mind blowing week! Our learning ability was challenged during our periodical test.
These past days I had to be up until past days to finish lectures and requirements and also to prepare for the quarterly test. In doing this, I will be using up much energy. To avoid this, I turned off the television and other electronic devices that might get my attention. I did not only conserve energy, but also, I’m sure that I will be focused on what I am doing. Another thing is, I only turn on the light that will give sufficient light in my workspace. And before I go to sleep, I assure that no lights or appliances will be left plugged.
This week, our English Teacher, asked us to bring used papers and bottles. Those papers and bottles will be reused or sell it in a junk shop or factory to be recycled. In doing this garbage around us will be reduced.
Many will think that this is just a waste of time but as long as it is for our own sake I will always take time in helping Mother Earth. And also I believe that every move we make counts, every sterp we take is a great help to our environment, to us and also to the next generation.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (October 1-7, 2012)

A busy week for all! Busy? Why? Because this week was a preparation for Teachers’ Day celebration. But even though were that busy, I still don’t forgt to nurture Mother Nature.
Almost the whole week was allotted in practicing our performance for the “big day”. It means that hunger, thirst and tiredness were felt by everyone. To satisfy our feelings, we rest and take a break at the canteen.  After that, trash was created. Being a responsible steward of the nature, we threw it at the right place. We also make sure that no garbage will be left.
We also experienced black outs. And it means water availability is also affected. Knowing this, I lessen my water usage. I used a glass while brushing my teeth and lessen my shower time. And make sure that I left enough water for other purposes.
Being a responsible steward of nature, I do all my best in doing things that will hel save our planet earth which is dying nowadays.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (September 24 – 30, 2012)

This week was a very fun and exciting week. Many of our teachers were busy preparing for this year’s intramurals. But instead of doing nothing, I just help in cleaning the surroundings.
Much garbage was created this week, so to help, I picked out those trash and throw them in the right place. I also manage to keep my trash in my pocket or inside my bag when a trash bin or garbage bag is out of sight, so when I see one, I’ll be able to dispose it properly.
These past days we also experienced very hot days. To relieve the hot feeling, I need to drink a lot of water. And that’s what I did. I have drunk a minimum of two mineral water a day. But in doing that, I had created a lot of trash, so to not interrupt the nature; I put the empty bottles into the sack for bottles. The bottles in that sack will be sold in the junk shop which in turn will be recycled.
In doing these things, I put in my mind that even in the simplest way I can help mother nature.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (September 17 - 23, 2012)

This week we experienced heavy rains, thuderstorms and cold nights. But this does not become a hindrance for our teachers to give us schoolworks. In fact, many presentations and outputs were  asked this week.
Since many schoolworks were given, paper usage was required. To help nature, I didn’t use a lot of paper. And in case of using scratch, I just use rejected papers. I also practiced putting all the trash I’ve made into the trash bin.
It’s raining! And the weather is cold. I must turn off the electric fan or any cooling device to lessen the cold feeling. It also helps lessen the electric consumption. I also reduce my bath time which can help minimize water usage. And I practiced to use a pail and a dipper in taking a bath to avoid wasting water.
Even though I’m busy, I still don’t forget to nurture our Mother Nature.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (September 10 – 16, 2012)

It’s a very tiring week. Many lectures, performances, outputs and tests were required by our teachers. But inspite of that, I still don’t forget Mother Earth. I still practice to do eco – friendly things.
In doing my outputs, I manage not to waste anything. I separate those that I can use for other outputs from those that I will not be able to use. I kept the stuffs needed for future use and throw those that cannot be use anymore. Also in making our props for the play in English, we manage not to throw anything that can be use in the future. Even in buying those stuffs, I/we just walk to go to the shop.
While reviewing for the test, I turned off the unnecessary things that might get my attention. I also turned off the unnecessary lights. And after reviewing, I decided to go to sleep. But before that, I brush my teeth first with a glass to avoid water spillage. I then go to sleep. Oh, what a peaceful night!
I have told a lot. And I wish that I helped Mother Nature for this week.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (September 3 - 9, 2012)

It’s an exciting and hard week for me. I have not attended any of my classes this week to prepare for the Science Fair. But thank God, after all those sacrifices, I bagged the first place in the Science Quiz competition.
The Science Fair was held at Doña Remedios Trinidad Hgh School. And all I see is mountain. Even the school it is in built at the slope of the mountain. And because I’m not familiar of the school, I wasn’t able to know where I am going to put my trash. Being a responsible student, I put my trash inside my bag or in my pocket. Also, the school and the place was a nice scene.  And I was so amazed, but inspite of that I still manage not to destroy is natural beauty.
Those were just few things, but as they say, “Big things come from small beginnings.” Even though these are few, I know that I contributed in saving Mother Earth.

Insight and Reflections on Philippine Public Storm Warning Signals

Today I have learned that ….

PSWS #1
PSS1.jpg
METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS:
  • A tropical cyclone will affect the locality.
  • Winds of 30-60 kph may be expected in at least 36 hours or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours. (When the tropical cyclone develops very close to the locality a shorter lead time of the occurrence of the winds will be specified in the warning bulletin.)
IMPACT OF THE WINDS:
  • Twigs and branches of small trees may be broken.
  • Some banana plants may be tilted or downed.
  • Some houses of very light materials (nipa and cogon) may be partially unroofed.
  • Unless this warning signal is upgraded during the entire existence of the tropical cyclone, only very light or no damage at all may be sustained by the exposed communities.
  • Rice crop, however, may suffer significant damage when it is in its flowering stage.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
  • When the tropical cyclone is strong or is intensifying and is moving closer, this signal may be upgraded to the next higher level.
  • The waves on coastal waters may gradually develop and become bigger and higher.
  • The people are advised to listen to the latest severe weather bulletin issued by PAGASA every six hours. In the meantime, business may be carried out as usual except when flood occur.
  • Disaster preparedness is activated to alert status.
PSWS #2
PSS2.jpg

METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS:
  • A tropical cyclone will affect the the locality.
  • Winds of greater than 60 kph and up to 100 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours.
IMPACT OF THE WINDS:
  • Some coconut trees may be tilted with few others broken.
  • Few big trees may be uprooted.
  • Many banana plants may be downed.
  • Rice and corn may be adversely affected.
  • Large number of nipa and cogon houses may be partially or totally unroofed.
  • Some old galvanized iron roofings may be peeled off.
  • In general, the winds may bring light to moderate damage to the exposed communities.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
  • The sea and coastal waters are dangerous to small seacrafts
  • Special attention should be given to the latest position, the direction and speed of movement and the intensity of the storm as it may intensify and move towards the locality.
  • The general public especially people travelling by sea and air are cautioned to avoid unnecessary risks.
  • Outdoor activities of children should be postponed.
  • Secure properties before the signal is upgraded.
  • Disaster preparedness agencies / organizations are in action to alert their communities.

PSWS #3
PSS3.jpg

METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS:
  • A tropical cyclone will affect the locality.
  • Winds of greater than 100 kph up to 185 kph may be expected in at least 18 hours.
IMPACT OF THE WINDS:
  • Many coconut trees may be broken or destroyed.
  • Almost all banana plants may be downed and a large number of trees may be uprooted.
  • Rice and corn crops may suffer heavy losses.
  • Majority of all nipa and cogon houses may be unroofed or destroyed and there may be considerable damage to structures of light to medium construction.
  • There may be widespread disruption of electrical power and communication services.
  • In general, moderate to heavy damage may be experienced, particularly in the agricultural and industrial sectors.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
  • The disturbance is dangerous to the communities threatened/affected.
  • The sea and coastal waters will be very dangerous to all seacrafts.
  • Travel is very risky especially by sea and air.
  • People are advised to seek shelter in strong buildings, evacuate low-lying areas and to stay away from the coasts and river banks.
  • Watch out for the passage of the "eye" of the typhoon indicated by a sudden occurrence of fair weather immediately after very bad weather with very strong winds coming gnerally from the north.
  • When the "eye" of the typhoon hit the community do not venture away from the safe shelter because after one to two hours the worst weather will resume with the very strong winds coming from the south.
  • Classes in all levels should be suspended and children should stay in the safety of strong buildings.
  • Disaster preparedness and response agencies/organizations are in action with appropriate response to actual emergency.

PSWS #4
PSS4.jpg

METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS:
  • A very intense typhoon will affect the locality.
  • Very strong winds of more than 185 kph may be expected in at least 12 hours.
IMPACT OF THE WINDS:
  • Coconut plantation may suffer extensive damage.
  • Many large trees may be uprooted.
  • Rice and corn plantation may suffer severe losses.
  • Most residential and institutional buildings of mixed construction may be severely damaged.
  • Electrical power distribution and communication services may be severely disrupted.
  • In the overall, damage to affected communities can be very heavy.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
  • The situation is potentially very destructive to the community.
  • All travels and outdoor activities should be cancelled.
  • Evacuation to safer shelters should have been completed since it may be too late under this situation.
  • With PSWS #4, the locality is very likely to be hit directly by the eye of the typhoon. As the eye of the typhoon approaches, the weather will continuously worsen with the winds increasing to its strongest coming generally from the north. Then a sudden improvement of the weather with light winds (a lull) will be experienced. This means that the eye of the typhoon is over the locality. This improved weather may last for one to two hours depending on the diameter of the eye and the speed of movement. As the eye moves out of the locality, the worst weather experienced before the lull will suddenly commence. This time the very strong winds will come generally from the south.
  • The disaster coordinating councils concerned and other disaster response organizations are now fully responding to emergencies and in full readiness to immediately respond to possible calamity.
Important to note that when any Public Storm Warning Signal Number is hoisted or put in effect for the first time, the corresponding meteorological conditions are not yet prevailing over the locality. This is because the purpose of the signal is to warn the impending occurrence of the given meteorological conditions. It must be noted also that the approximate lead time to expect the range of the wind speeds given for each signal number is valid only when the signal number is put in effect for the first time. Thus, the associated meteorological conditions are still expected in at least 36 hours when PSWS #1 is put in effect initially; in at least 24 hours with PSWS #2; in at least 18 hours with PSWS #3; and in at least 12 hours with PSWS #4. The lead time shortens correspondingly in the subsequent issues of the warning bulletin when the signal number remains in effect as the tropical cyclone comes closer.
It is also important to remember that tropical cyclones are constantly in motion; generally towards the Philippines when PAGASA is issuing the warning. Therefore, the Public Storm Warning Signal Number over a threatened/ affected locality may be sequentially upgraded or downgraded. This means that PSWS #1 may be be upgraded to PSWS #2, then to PSWS #3 and to PSWS #4 as necessary when a very intense typhoon is approaching or downgraded when the typhoon is moving away. However, in case of rapid improvement of the weather condition due to the considerable weakening or acceleration of speed of movement of the tropical cyclone moving away from the country, the downgrading of signal may jump one signal level. For example, PSWS #3 may be downgraded to PSWS #1 or all signals from PSWS #2 may be lowered.
The delineation of areas for a given signal number is based on the intensity, size of circulation and the forecast direction and speed of movement of the tropical storm or typhoon at the time of issue of the warning bulletin. The change in intensity, size of circulation or movement of the tropical cyclone also determines the change in the PSWS number over a given locality.

I will apply my learnings about storm signal so that I can know when to prepare or evacuate myself when there’s a prevailing typhoon near our place.

Learnings about this precaution is important because I can expect what will be the effect of a a typhoon nearby and also to prepare myself for it.
On a larger scale, I will share my learnings about this precaution because it is a necessity
for us to know what will be the effect of a nearby typhoon and what do we need to do when a particular storm warning signal is raised in our locality.
I need to know more about the factors that PAGASA consider to raised a particular storm warning signal on a certain place.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (August 27 - September 2, 2012)

It’s raining! Oh no, it’s too hot! Oh it’s raining again. But it’s hot! I’ve been so confuse with the weather this week.
I experienced very high temperature this week thus making me dizzy and feel very thirsty. To quench my thirst, I drank a lot of water. In fact, I have drunk an average of two bottled water per day this week. And that creates a lot of trash, so I practice disposing it properly.
These past days, we also experienced heavy rains, roaring thunder and flashing lightning. I’m so scared. And because of this, I should not risk my safety going out. But staying at home makes me feel bored, so to relieve boredom, I just help in cleaning our house.
And these are the things I’ve done for mother earth last week. I hope that many people will also do these things or even greater things for our environment.

Insights and Reflections about Tropical Cyclone

Today I have learned that a tropical cyclone is a storm system characterized by a low-pressure center and numerous thunderstorms that produce strong winds and heavy rain. It strengthens when water evaporated from the ocean is released as the saturated air rises, resulting in condensation of water vapor contained in the moist air. The term "tropical" refers both to the geographical origin of these systems, which usually form in tropical regions of the globe, and to their formation in maritime tropical air masses. The term "cyclone" refers to such storms' cyclonic nature, with counterclockwise wind flow in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise wind flow in the Southern Hemisphere. The opposite direction of the wind flow is a result of the Coriolis force. Depending on its location and strength, a tropical cyclone is referred to by names such as hurricane, typhoon, tropical storm, cyclonic storm, tropical depression, and simply cyclone.

I will apply my learnings about Tropical Cyclones and the factors that may affect it so that, we can possibly tell, what weather phenomena might be causing a particular weather.

Learnings about this phenomenon is important because we can be aware of what weather might we experience during tropical cyclone. And also we can say that a Low Pressure Area might near our country might develop into a tropical cyclone.

On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in this phenomenon because knowledge about Tropical Cyclone can help us prepare ourselves for the dangers and other possible happenings that might occur during this phenomenon.

I need to know more about the factors that may contribute to the formation and development of a Tropical Cyclone and also the measures to be taken during it.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (August 20 - 26, 2012)

Many sophomore students have shown their nationalistic spirit during the celebration of “Buwan ng Wika” themed “Tatag ng Wikang Filipino, Lakas ng Pagka Pilipino”. I am one of those competitors but unfortunately I lose in the legend writing contest. Even though the fate had turned, I still don’t forget to help Mother Nature. After the contest, I put my rough draft in the sack for papers which will then be sold to junk shop to be manufactured.
Our cards were also given this week. Being the top 1 of class, I think asking a new cellular phone as a reward. But then, I heard in one documentary film that many countries out there and even our country are now facing Electronic/Electrical waste (E - waste) problem or the increasing number electronic devices that cannot be used anymore. Hearing this news, made me realize that I do not a new gadget since my cellphone is still working.
These are just small and few things but I hope I’ve done my part to save our planet.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (August 13 - 19, 2012)

These past days we experienced a very unpredictable weather. After raining hard, the sun then appeared giving out its hottest rays but the next day a cloudy sky and cold wind start up the day.
Rainy days start up the week. And it was also ended up by a rain. During these days, again, I wasn’t able to use the electric fan due to the cold atmosphere. And because I can’t go out, I just swept the floor in our home; wiped the figurines and washed the dishes. In that way I was able to help in cleaning our surroundings.
This week we also experienced a very hot day. Since it is hot, I feel very thirsty. To relieve it I bought mineral water. And I consumed two of it. To help our environment, I did not throw it anywhere just like what others do. Instead I throw it in the trash bin. During this sunny day, sophomore officers, class presidents and their vice, worked together to clean up our province.
Those mention above are just few ways of helping the nature but I surely know that I’ve done my best to save Planet Earth.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (August 6 - 12, 2012 )

This week we experienced the powerful strike back of our Mother Nature. Even though there’s no tropical cyclone or a low pressure area, many cities and provinces in Luzon were flooded. Many houses were blown by the wind and many crops were devastated. This great damage was cause only by a Southwest Monsoon. This pushes me to care more for our environment.
I experienced very cold nights these past days. And so to make me feel warm I turn off the electric fan and cover myself with a blanket. My normal 25-30 minutes bath time was also reduce due to the low temperature. In that way, water usage was also lessened. And instead of just sitting doing nonsense things I help just help in cleaning our house. I swept the floor and wiped the figurines.
This Sunday I went to the Mall. I then bought a dress, and to my surprise the shop did not use plastic bags instead they put the clothe in a paper bag. And when we go to a fast food chain to eat I notice their signage saying “Sunday : No straw day”. How blessed am I to go to this shops helping to save nature. And in going there, I think that I was also able to participate in their campaign to save our planet.
Even in my simplest way, I know that I’m showing to our Mother Earth. I’m hoping that people would also value our only planet. And I wish that they learn a lesson from what had happen this week.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (July 30 - August 5, 2012 )

It has been a very tiring and hard week for me. Not only I have to review for the Periodic Tests but also I need to do all the requirements for this week. And this forces me to be awake until 12 midnight.
In spite of all these things that must be done, I was still able to help in doing household chores. I sweep the floor and also wash the dishes. A clean house will be a better place to study. After doing my part in the house, I then took out my notebooks and books to review my past lessons. So that I can understand it clearly, I make sure that I will not be disturbed by anything. To do so, I first turn off all the appliances or gadgets that might get my attention. And also to make it easier to memorize terms I wrote down notes at the back of the papers printed with wrong documents. In doing this I was able to lessen my paper usage. After I had read my notes, brush my teeth with a glass. And before I get into bed, I turned off the all the lights in our house. Finally it was the time to end up a full load day.
Even though I have many things to accomplish, I still don’t forget to help nurture our planet. And so I hope that others will also seek some time in saving our nature.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (July 23 - 29, 2012)

What a wonderful weekend it is! To start my day, I first thank the Lord for another day He gave me. Then, I ate my breakfast and after it brush my teeth with the use of glass to save water. Before I take a bath I go out to feel the morning sunshine and sweep our front yard. After I rest for a few minute I then took a bath using a pail and a dipper.
This week, I experienced staying up until past 12. Since, it is late night, I did not turn on the television to avoid waking them up. I also turned off the bright lights in our house and just use a light source that will give me enough light.
These are just small things and simple ways of saving the Earth. But if all will participate a beautiful and a more suitable planet to live in it will be.

Insights and Reflections about Low Pressure Area (LPA)

Today, I have learned that a low-pressure area, low or depression,   is a region where the atmospheric pressure is lowest with relation to the surrounding area. It is an area of low  atmospheric pressure that has a closed counter-clockwise circulation  in the NortherHemisphere. It is also known as a cyclone which is usually characterized by clouds of  precipitation caused by rising air; often related to inclement weather such as winds flowing counter clockwise and into the center of the low.
Low-pressure systems form under areas of wind divergence which occur in upper levels of the troposphere. The formation process of a low-pressure area is known as cyclogenesis.
I will apply my learnings about this phenomenon in a way that I must be alert and aware of the possibilities that may happen when there’s a Low Pressure Area near our country.
Learnings about this phenomenon are important because we can prepare ourselves whenever there’s a Low Pressure Area near our country.
On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in this phenomenon to help others be aware and be safe during phenomenon.
I need to know more about the factors that contribute to the formation of low pressure area and how it can affect our weather.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (July 16 - 22, 2012)

A week of many quizzes, lot of assignments and various activities, a very busy week yet an exciting one.
Instead of wasting my time watching television, playing computer games or texting, I just use my time doing my assignments and other requirements. I also use it to review for the quizzes. Also, I was able to save electricity. To regain energy, I end up my day with a sleep. But before that, I turned off first the lights.
It’s been also raining for these past days. And so I did not use electric fan that much since it is cold. I also did not use much time in taking a bath enabling me to consume less water. Another thing, is I can’t go out because it is raining outside and so I just help cleaning our house by sweeping the floor and dusting the furnitures.
These are just a few of the things that we can do to help save our planet.

Insights and Reflections about El Niño and La Niña Phenomena

Today, I have learned that El Niño and La Niña phenomena refer to conditions that characterize two extreme phases of a natural climate cycle that can be described. Both the these terms refer to the large-scale shifts and changes that occur in the sea surface temperature of the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.
El Niño phenomenon is an abnormal weather pattern caused by the warming of the Pacific Ocean. It is characterized by extreme climatic changes - world-warming along South America, torrential rains in North America, extreme temperature rise and drought in Southeast Asia and Australia. El Niño occurs every two to seven years.
While La Niña phenomenon is usually described as a cooler than average sea surface temperature of the Pacific Ocean. It phenomenon is known to occur every few years in this area and beyond, and it is known to last anywhere from a few months to as long as two years or so.
I will apply my learnings about this phenomenon in a way that when there is an El Niño or La Niña phenomena, I will prepare myself for what will going to happen.
Learnings about this phenomenon are important because we can be aware of the weather changes that will occur during an El Niño or La Niña.
On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in these phenomena to help others be aware of these phenomena. And for them to be prepared on the things that might happen during this phenomena.
I need to know more about the factors that contribute to the occurrence of El Niño and La Niña phenomena. And the things will be done during this.

Insights and Reflections about Tropical Depression

Today, I have learned that a Tropical Depression is an organized system of clouds and thunderstorms with a surface circulation of less than 39 mph. Though the depression doesn't have an 'eye' or the spiral shape, which characterizes powerful storms, it is indeed a low pressure area and hence is referred to as a depression. This depression mostly forms in the tropical regions of the planet, in maritime tropical air masses and hence it is referred to as tropical depression.
I will apply my learnings about this phenomenon in a way that whenever I heard that there is a tropical depression near or in our country I will be prepared of what will going to happen.
Learnings about this phenomenon are important because we can be aware of what weather we will have and what we must do when there’s a tropical depression.
On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in this phenomenon to help other be aware of the weather we will experience and also for their safety.
I need to know more about the factors that contribute to the formation of tropical depression and the best measure to be taken when there’s a tropical depression.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (June 9 – July 15, 2012)

Oh, what a bright and sunny weekend it is! To give me energy for the day, I eat first my breakfast. Then, I brushed my teeth using a glass to avoid consuming and wasting much water. And to refresh myself, I then took a bath. Trying to prevent water spillage, I used a pail and a dipper. I opened the windows in our room to let the fresh air enter and for the sunlight to light up the room.
It’s been a very busy week for many of us. The II – A class faced many assignments, activities and quizzes this week. In doing my assignments and reviewing for those quizzes, I turn off all the unnecessary appliances so that I will not be distracted and also to save energy. I lessen the use of cellular phone.
Simple things, little ways, but if all of us will participate, a greener and safer Mother Earth it will be.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (June 2 – July 8, 2012)

Nutrition month celebration, campaign preparation and the actual campaigning, these things made my week busy.
During the nutrition month celebration we promote vegetable gardening. We also did t at some vacant lots in our school. We did not only help regain the Green Mother Earth but we also save money intended for buying vegetables in the market.
Since it is a very tiring week, I drank a lot of water to prevent water loss. Then, I gave the water bottles I consumed to the third year students for them to recycle it. I also lessen the use of cellular phone, laptop and television. The time allotted for those activities was then used in taking a power nap. Not only I saved electricity but I also recover energy. These practices might be nonsense for others but if all of us will do this regularly, I’m sure that we can recover the beauty of our planet.

Insights and Reflections about Monsoon

Today, I have learned that the word Monsson is derived from the Arabic word  “Mausim” which means season. It is traditionally defined as a seasonal reversing wind accompanied by corresponding changes in precipitation. It influences large climatic regions and reverses direction seasonally. It is sometimes primarily cause by much greater annual variation in temperature over large areas of land than over large areas of adjacent ocean water.
I will apply my learnings about this phenomenon in a way that when there’s no typhoon and it’s raining hard, it is probably cause by a monsoon.
Learnings about this phenomenon are important because we can know what the cause of a sudden rainfall is.
On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in this phenomenon because it can help us be aware on what will the weather be and the measures to be taken when there’s a monsoon.
I need to know more about the factors that contribute to monsoon and what are we going to do when there’s a monsoon.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (June 25 – July 1, 2012)

The rain is pouring, the wind is blowing and the weather is cold. What a rainy week we have! I did not use the electric fan; instead I just feel the cold wind blows. I also minimize the use of cellular phone so that I will not charge it from time to time. And because its cold I did not use much water in taking a bath. I also use a pail and a dipper to avoid water spillage.
This week I learned that plastics take a very long period of time to decompose and it pollutes the environment. So to help, I lessen the use of plastics but rather I just use cloth bags. I also learned that many trees were being cut down to produce papers. Being aware, I did not use papers for unnecessary things. And this is my Low Carbon Diet for the week.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (June 18 – 25, 2012)

A bright and sunny weekend it is. And it’s been a wonderful and exciting week for me. These past days I’ve been walking in going to short distances, like going home from school. In doing so, I did not only help in saving the earth but also it helps me save a fare.  And it also exercises my legs.
Last night, I heard the news about the energy shortage that might probably result to rotating brownout here in Luzon. And it advices us to minimize the use of electricity. To help, I turned off and unplugged the television since I do not like the show. And because it’s not that hot, I did not use the electric fan. I also turned off the unnecessary lights in our house. Even in small ways, I know that I helped our Mother Nature.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (June 11 – 17, 2012)

It’s a cloudy weekend and the rain might fall anytime. Before eating breakfast, I brushed my teeth first. I used a glass while brushing my teeth to help save water. Afterwards, I took a bath using a pail and dipper to avoid water from spilling. I opened the window in our room to let the fresh air enter and not use electric fan. It also allows the daylight to lighten up my room instead of turning on the lights. While doing homeworks, I did not use any appliances to help conserve energy. And these are the things I did to help our Mother Earth.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (June 4 - 9)

We all know that our Mother Earth is suffering nowadays. So, to help our environment, I disposed my wastes properly. I also unplugged all the appliances when not in use. While doing my assignments, I turn off the television to lessen the use of electricity and also for me not to be distracted. And before I go to sleep, I turned off the lights. This is my Low Carbon Diet for the week.
