Insights and Reflections about Tropical Cyclone

Today I have learned that a tropical cyclone is a storm system characterized by a low-pressure center and numerous thunderstorms that produce strong winds and heavy rain. It strengthens when water evaporated from the ocean is released as the saturated air rises, resulting in condensation of water vapor contained in the moist air. The term "tropical" refers both to the geographical origin of these systems, which usually form in tropical regions of the globe, and to their formation in maritime tropical air masses. The term "cyclone" refers to such storms' cyclonic nature, with counterclockwise wind flow in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise wind flow in the Southern Hemisphere. The opposite direction of the wind flow is a result of the Coriolis force. Depending on its location and strength, a tropical cyclone is referred to by names such as hurricane, typhoon, tropical storm, cyclonic storm, tropical depression, and simply cyclone.

I will apply my learnings about Tropical Cyclones and the factors that may affect it so that, we can possibly tell, what weather phenomena might be causing a particular weather.

Learnings about this phenomenon is important because we can be aware of what weather might we experience during tropical cyclone. And also we can say that a Low Pressure Area might near our country might develop into a tropical cyclone.

On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in this phenomenon because knowledge about Tropical Cyclone can help us prepare ourselves for the dangers and other possible happenings that might occur during this phenomenon.

I need to know more about the factors that may contribute to the formation and development of a Tropical Cyclone and also the measures to be taken during it.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (August 20 - 26, 2012)

Many sophomore students have shown their nationalistic spirit during the celebration of “Buwan ng Wika” themed “Tatag ng Wikang Filipino, Lakas ng Pagka Pilipino”. I am one of those competitors but unfortunately I lose in the legend writing contest. Even though the fate had turned, I still don’t forget to help Mother Nature. After the contest, I put my rough draft in the sack for papers which will then be sold to junk shop to be manufactured.
Our cards were also given this week. Being the top 1 of class, I think asking a new cellular phone as a reward. But then, I heard in one documentary film that many countries out there and even our country are now facing Electronic/Electrical waste (E - waste) problem or the increasing number electronic devices that cannot be used anymore. Hearing this news, made me realize that I do not a new gadget since my cellphone is still working.
These are just small and few things but I hope I’ve done my part to save our planet.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (August 13 - 19, 2012)

These past days we experienced a very unpredictable weather. After raining hard, the sun then appeared giving out its hottest rays but the next day a cloudy sky and cold wind start up the day.
Rainy days start up the week. And it was also ended up by a rain. During these days, again, I wasn’t able to use the electric fan due to the cold atmosphere. And because I can’t go out, I just swept the floor in our home; wiped the figurines and washed the dishes. In that way I was able to help in cleaning our surroundings.
This week we also experienced a very hot day. Since it is hot, I feel very thirsty. To relieve it I bought mineral water. And I consumed two of it. To help our environment, I did not throw it anywhere just like what others do. Instead I throw it in the trash bin. During this sunny day, sophomore officers, class presidents and their vice, worked together to clean up our province.
Those mention above are just few ways of helping the nature but I surely know that I’ve done my best to save Planet Earth.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (August 6 - 12, 2012 )

This week we experienced the powerful strike back of our Mother Nature. Even though there’s no tropical cyclone or a low pressure area, many cities and provinces in Luzon were flooded. Many houses were blown by the wind and many crops were devastated. This great damage was cause only by a Southwest Monsoon. This pushes me to care more for our environment.
I experienced very cold nights these past days. And so to make me feel warm I turn off the electric fan and cover myself with a blanket. My normal 25-30 minutes bath time was also reduce due to the low temperature. In that way, water usage was also lessened. And instead of just sitting doing nonsense things I help just help in cleaning our house. I swept the floor and wiped the figurines.
This Sunday I went to the Mall. I then bought a dress, and to my surprise the shop did not use plastic bags instead they put the clothe in a paper bag. And when we go to a fast food chain to eat I notice their signage saying “Sunday : No straw day”. How blessed am I to go to this shops helping to save nature. And in going there, I think that I was also able to participate in their campaign to save our planet.
Even in my simplest way, I know that I’m showing to our Mother Earth. I’m hoping that people would also value our only planet. And I wish that they learn a lesson from what had happen this week.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (July 30 - August 5, 2012 )

It has been a very tiring and hard week for me. Not only I have to review for the Periodic Tests but also I need to do all the requirements for this week. And this forces me to be awake until 12 midnight.
In spite of all these things that must be done, I was still able to help in doing household chores. I sweep the floor and also wash the dishes. A clean house will be a better place to study. After doing my part in the house, I then took out my notebooks and books to review my past lessons. So that I can understand it clearly, I make sure that I will not be disturbed by anything. To do so, I first turn off all the appliances or gadgets that might get my attention. And also to make it easier to memorize terms I wrote down notes at the back of the papers printed with wrong documents. In doing this I was able to lessen my paper usage. After I had read my notes, brush my teeth with a glass. And before I get into bed, I turned off the all the lights in our house. Finally it was the time to end up a full load day.
Even though I have many things to accomplish, I still don’t forget to help nurture our planet. And so I hope that others will also seek some time in saving our nature.
